How to fix the ceiling fan light pulley?

the string that hangs down from the fan to turn the light on broke. how do i fix the pulley string to turn on the light?

You have to buy a new switch assembly with a new string or chain and replace the old one. It is wired so the new one will have to be rewired.
Hardware stores sell them, so take the old one to match it up.
