1999 Dodge Dakota 4x4. Lurching when trying to accelerate. Mechanic says that it needs new ECM sensor?

The truck was recently sitting for a period of a couple of months. Was only driven a few times during this period. When first driven after this time was fine for a about two days. After this time it started to lurch when it was cold during acceleration.
did he show you a code for that ,because a bad ecm will throw a code if its bad,so i would take it and get a scan done on it to see if that's actually the cause of it,setting wont make a ecm go bad,if it wasn't doing this before id check the codes on
